Hair Bonding
Hair bonding, also known as hair extension bonding or hair weft bonding, is a technique used to attach hair extensions or wefts to the natural hair. This method involves using a specialized adhesive to bond the extension wefts to small sections of the natural hair close to the scalp.
Here's how the hair bonding process typically works:
- Preparation: Before bonding the hair extensions, the natural hair is prepared by sectioning it into small segments. These sections are usually about the same width as the extension wefts.
- Application of Adhesive: A special bonding adhesive, often in the form of glue or keratin-based adhesive, is applied to the base of the extension weft. The adhesive is then carefully applied to the natural hair section, usually starting from the roots and working downwards.
- Attachment: Once the adhesive is applied, the extension weft is firmly pressed onto the natural hair section to create a secure bond. The hairstylist may use a heat source, such as a fusion wand or hot iron, to help set the adhesive and ensure a strong bond.
- Blending and Styling: After the extensions are bonded to the natural hair, the hairstylist blends the extensions with the client’s natural hair to create a seamless, natural-looking result. The hair can then be styled as desired, including cutting, curling, or straightening the extensions to achieve the desired look.
Hair bonding can be used to add length, volume, or both to the natural hair, making it a popular choice for individuals looking to enhance their hair’s appearance. It is essential to have hair bonding performed by a trained and experienced hairstylist to ensure proper application and minimize the risk of damage to the natural hair.
While hair bonding can provide beautiful results, it is essential to keep in mind that the bond created by the adhesive is semi-permanent and will gradually weaken over time. Typically, hair extensions attached using bonding adhesive will need to be removed and reinstalled every 6 to 8 weeks to maintain the integrity of the natural hair and prevent tangling or matting of the extensions.
